In the past few days, over a thousand parents gathered in Redmond, Washington at Overlake Christian Church to attend a conference for encouragement, equipping, and fellowship with other foster or adoptive parents. Speakers ranged from counselors, adoptees, writers, adoptive parents, children whose families adopted and/or raised foster children, and much more. The dynamic of trust among parents was truly unique as they were all in need of great support that is just difficult to get from people who do not understand all you are bearing. The new, organic friendships were everywhere. Hair stylists, massage therapists, and hand massage therapists came and gave free services to tons of people. It was amazing. Well over twenty states were represented.
Typically when I am paying for my groceries, I will tell the checker that I started a non-profit, and their store has supported it--with thanks--but without mentioning the name of the organization. They always appreciate the positive feedback, and occasionally ask a question or two. Today, while paying at Fred Meyer, the gentleman who was checking my groceries was eager to know more. Recently, there was a conference in Redmond, Washington, for foster and adoptive parents. Over eight hundred attended. People came from Texas, Tennessee, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, California and Washington. It was a fantastic resource of encouragement and equipping for all who attended. It was announced there that this summer, there will be a summer camp of similar theme at Refreshed Families Foster and Adoptive Family Camp on July 27-30, 2014. Shopping passes can be purchased directly from LAA, and can be used at any Macy's store. Mail a check for $5 to Liberty Adoption Advocates P.O. Box 2644, Redmond WA 98073. Checks must be received by Aug 15th, 2013 in order to leave time for coupons to be mailed in time for the sale. Please include your mailing address.
This month something very exciting to those of us who care about adoption, the children still in need of adoption, and the families hindered by the high fees that can be overwhelming! This month, the eastide welcomes a new non-profit, The Children's Law Center of Washington, which will support permanency for orphaned or vulnerable children by providing low and no cost legal services to local families needing assistance.
At Overlake Christian Church in Redmond, Washington, from 11 am to 5 pm, families can come to the Gym where there will be huge Bouncy Houses, Slides and more for kids. Suggested Donation is $10 per child per hour. All donations are tax deductible and will go to The Children's Law Center of Washington. Parents need to stay in the building while Junior jumps, but there's free wireless in the Cental Lounge, and the Espresso Bar will be open! Overlake is located at 9900 Willows Road NE in Remond.
